Scope of application

With the implementation of ARCNET networks, the maximum length of a network segment is limited by the cables. In order to expand the net, HUBs allow you to connect several segments consecutively. However, one must note that bit jitters play an important part besides regenerating signal impulses and forms. Commercial hubs do indeed regenerate the levels of the signals, however, they do not reduce the bit jitters resp. actually may add jitters. The SH ARC-HUB will avoid all these disadvantages. Since the throughput time is close to its physical limit with about 2 bit, SH ARC HUBs can be cascaded without limit as long as the timeout conditions of the connected ARCNET nodes are being met.

Design / Functionalities

The SH ARC-HUB is based on state-of-the-art PLD technology. ARCNET signals will be read and regenerated while the level of the signal and the timing pattern are being restored. That helps to optimally regenerate even strongly deferred signals. Per channel, a green LED indicates the receiving activity while a red LED indicates the status of the reconfiguration. That let's you recognize immediately where a connected ARCNET node had triggered a Recon. Another LED indicates Alert Burst Errors that might occur with instable networks. Permanent comparison of sent and received impulses monitors the transceivers in operating mode and displays possible errors with the red LED. For power supplies you may select 115/230V AC or 24V DC. The SH ARC-HUB is currently available as desktop version (power supply) and with DIN track assembly (24V DC). The design of the SH ARC-HUB (completely closed metal casing, filter for power supply and BNC plugs) assures error-free operations even in a rough industrial environment.
