Scope of application

The SH ARC-ISA-HUB is an ARCNET card for PCs with an ISA bus compatible to IBM that is fully downward compatible to the popular SH ARC-ISA. The card has a HUB function with 5 channels. One port of which is used for COM20022 onboard, one port for the COAX/RS-485 interface on-board and the other three ports for up to three external interface modules.

The interface modules can be selected directly and are connected to the basic card via a flat conductor cable. The modules are installed at the slot metals in the PC. With the installation in the PC and the use of the voltage supply already available there, the SH ARC-ISA-HUB represents a connection to an ARCNET network which is economical, compact and very variable because of the HUB function with interface modules that can be selected as the need arises.

Service LEDs ensure the fast monitoring and diagnosis of the card in operation. Design in conformity with EMC ensures the application even in a rough industrial environment.

Functionality

The card stands out due to the following features:

ARCNET Controller

On the card there is the ARCNET controller COM20022 by SMSC, which is fully compatible to the COM20020. Bit rates of up to 10 Mbps as well as further setting possibilities are supported.

ISA Bus Interface

The 16 Bit-ISA bus card facilitates the use of interrupts from 2 to 15. Thereby only 16 I/O addresses are occupied with the basic address being directly configurable.

Hub Function

It is implemented by means of the hub chip TMC2005. Five channels are available with one channel being required for the ARCNET-Controller and one for the on-board interfaces. Three channels are available for the connection of optional interface modules. The bit rate after reset or power-on can be predefined with a DIP switch.

Fieldbus Connection

The COAX or the RS-485 interface can be used alternatively (both on-board). With the appropriate component equipping both are suitable for bit rates of up to 10 Mbps. By means of a protective logic the COAX transceiver is protected from being destroyed in operation with low transmission rates or in the back-plane mode.

External Fieldbus Connection (optional)

Three Hub channels can be occupied with interface modules (connection via the flat conductor cable which is attached to the modules, installation in the PC by means of the slot metal). Fibre optic-, COAX- and RS-485 modules are currently available.

Performance characteristics

Basic card

• 16 Bit ISA bus card, interrupts settable from 2 to 15
• ARCNET-Controller COM20022 (fully compatible to COM20020)
• Electrically isolated coax or RS-485 interface, transmission rates of up to 10 Mbps
   - controlling the HITs in the back-pla- mode or at incorrect speed (COAX)
   - protection of the RS-485 interface from overvoltage
• LEDs for indicating transmitting and receiving activities, accesses of the PC to the card as well as interface operating mode
• Hub functionality for five channels (one port for COM20022 and one port for interface on-board)
• Bit rate of the hub is automatically set at the initialization of the ARCNET controller
• Bit-rate of the hub after reset or power-on selectable via DIP switch
• CE mark (industrial environment)
