About ARCNET
The high-quality ARCNET field bus product line is a child of SOHARD’s early days. With embedded systems and ARCNET technologies, SOHARD is the market leader.
SOHARD has 19 years of experience and disposes of state-of-the-art know-how in field bus links in industrial environments with the focus on ARCNET and offers its customers a broad range of products, from insert cards to hubs.
History and properties:
ARCNET (Attached Resources Computer NETwork) was developed by Datapoint, USA, in 1977 as LAN (Local Area Network). At the start it was used as office network but now increasingly found its significance in the industrial market as field bus. Meanwhile it forms a broad basis for many applications. ARCNET finds it main use in automation and power plant technology as well as in industrial control technology. ARCNET is used with printing machines, in networking windmill power plants or in controlling and monitoring Formula 1 race cars.
Compared to other field bus systems ARCNET offers decisive advantages with long distances, large data amounts and high transfer rates.
Current chips offer transfer rates of up to 10 Mbit/s.
ARCNET features a high net data transfer rate, works in real time with deterministic behaviour and offers simple adaptations.
For its use in the industrial environment long-term secure planning and compatible further development is highest priority.
ARCNET products meet these requirements with high longterm stability.
ARCNET serves sophisticated applications that need to work over a long period of time without risk. ARCNET also offers deterministic operations, features short access times, high data transfer security, automatic reconfiguration and various physical transfer media.
SOHARD is the co-founder of the ARCNET User Group e.V. (also see www.arcnet.de for more information on AUG e.V.). ARCNET® is a registered trade mark of the Datapoint Corporation.
