Scope of application

The SH ARC-PCMCIA is a PCMCIA ARCNET adapter particularly for use in laptops in industrial environments. The device is available with various ARCNET interface modules for connection to ARCNET networks with different signaling methods (sine dipulse, RS-485/EIA-485, RS485AC and optical) via coaxial, twisted pair or fiber optic cables.

When you change to a PC with PCMCIA interface the card can immediately substitute other SOHARD ARCNET network adapters, if your application is using the SOHARD RAW ARCNET interface and the corresponding driver. Your application needs not to be changed.

Design & Functionality

The SH ARC-PCMCIA is a type I card conforming to the PCMCIA Standard 2.1.

Field bus connection

ARCNET interface modules (to be ordered separately) are connected to the SH ARC-PCMCIA by a shielded, integrated cable. The interface modules are housed in solid metal casings. A protective logic prevents the coaxial transceiver from being destroyed due to incorrect bit rates or mode.

Two LEDs at the ARCNET interface module indicate ARCNET activity and host access.

For technical information on the SOHARD ARCNET interface modules usable with the card, please have a look at our product datasheet “ARCNET Interface Modules”.
